Wii U Launch after March 2012

Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has said that the new Wii U console will go on sale in the next fiscal year (which begins in April). Iwata also said that the final version of the console will be showcased at the annual Los Angeles E3 conference in June 2012. This would then suggest that the Wii U launch will be in sometime July onwards probably in time for Christmas 2012.

With rumours of Microsoft and Sony also possibly showing off their new consoles, the pressure is on Nintendo to produce a winning console again that will reverse the fortunes of Nintendo which has just announced big losses for the first half of 2011.

Next Generation Wii U Console

As widely expected, Nintendo annouced it's next generation Wii games console at the E3 games show in Los Angeles. Named, Wii U (as in We You), the new console incorporates a set-top box and a new concept tablet style controller which incorporates a 6.2 inch screen which allows separate gameplay content to be shown to individual users that it not shown on the big screen.

The Wii U will also be backwords compatible with the original Wii games and controllers. No details of pricing or release date as of yet, however it is expected to be released sometime in Q2 2012.

Nintendo Wii 2 to be announced at E3?

Nintendo is rumoured to be working on the 2nd coming of the Wii Console with a long awaitied anncoucement to be made at this years E3 in early June 2011 (the annual trade show for the computer and video games industry). At last years expo, Nintendo announced the now released glasses-free 3DS handheld console.

The Wii 2 is unlikely to include 3D functionality but it is likely to be HD and one rumour is that it could also include some kind of LED projector. Other rumours on likely specifications include a Blu-ray drive and fast quad-core processor which brings the new console in line or ahead in respect of graphic capabilities.

Sales of the Nintendo Wii have dropped off significantly in recent times and Nintendo will be keen to re-establish their dominant position in the videa gaming market which is worth billions. If any annoucement is made, it is unlikely we will see this new Wii 2 console in 2011, most likely in early 2012.

Nintendo 3DS Console

Nintendo have announced the release of the new 3DS handheld console.

This new console is the first for a few years and is set to shake up the games industry with the indroduction of 3D gaming, without the need of special glasses.

The UK release date is 25th March 2011 and 3DS preorder are now being taken at UK retailers.

Nintendo have confirmed a special edition red coloured Wii Console to be launched on the 29th October 2010 in the UK. The launch coincides with the 25th anniversary of Nintendo's mascot Mario character. The package will include the New Super Mario Bros game and the the "Original" Donkey Kong pre-installed (as well as the standard Wii Sports Resort). Pricing yet to be confirmed, however we suspect it will be unlikely to be much different from the current Wii models.

Nintendo have announced the UK release of the sleek looking Wii Black Console.

Due for release on the 6th November 2009, for once the UK gets priority over the US (No Release Date) and Europe (20/11).

The Wii Black Console will be Limited Edition and comes bundled with the original Wii Sports and the newer sequel Wii Sports Resort. Black controllers are included. No official RRP has yet been announced.

Nintendo have confirmed that a new Wii Console package will replace the current offering of the Wii Console and Wii Sports. It is understood the new bundle will include the Wii console, one nunchuck controller, one Wii Remote, one MotionPlus accessory together with the top selling Wii Sports Resort and original Wii Sports. It is believed this will be released on 5th October 2009.

Nintendo have also confirmed they will be reducing the trade price of the Wii Console to retailers, however it will be up to the individual retailer as to whether they pass on any price reduction to the customer.

Wii Black in the UK?

The Wii Black coloured Console has already been released in Japan, plus new black remote and MotionPlus bundles have been announced for release in the US later this year, however nothing yet annouced for the UK or Europe?

Unfortunately it looks like we will have to wait at least until 2010 before we see this sexy looking bit of kit.

Wii Console Price Cut?

Speculation is continuing to mount of an impending price cut of the Nintendo Wii console.

Numerous leaks from retailers in the US report that there will be a price drop to $249 (£150) in early October. If true, this will follow the lead already recently taken by Microsoft and Sony in reducing the Xbox 360 and PS3 prices respectively.

Wii Fit is set to be the biggest release for the Wii console in 2008.

Released on the 25th April, priced at £69.99, Wii Fit comes bundled with the Wii balance board, a wireless pressure sensitive device that looks like a weighing scales.
