The European launch date for the new Nintendo 3DS console is 25th march 2011. No official recommended retail price has been announced, however most retailers are currently pitching the 3DS at around £229.99 with preorders now being taken.
 Two different coloured models will be available from launch, Aqua Blue and Cosmos Black.
As the name suggests, the main new feature of the Nintendo 3DS is it's 3D display. This 'parallax' screen displays 3D images without the need for glasses. A slide control on the console allows you to adjust the depth/amount of the 3D effect, from a full on 3D display to none at all.
The 3DS features 3 cameras.An inward facing camera for taking photos of one self and two outward facing cameras capable of taking 3D photos. Your personal Mii character can be constructed via a self portrait photo taken of yourself.
A 2GB SD memory Card is included in the package for storing photos and other content and the 3DS also sports a gyroscope and accelerometer which provides motion-sensor capabilities (similar to the Wii controller).
Since the original Nintendo release of the DS back in 2004, the DS series of consoles has sold in excess of 125 million units. The shift to 3D gaming with the 3DS is probably the biggest and most impressive change that the handheld console market has seen to date. To really understand what the Nintendo 3DS is capable of, you really need to see the console itself displaying it's 3D content. This is why Nintendo has embarked on a huge sampling tour of the UK to demonstrate the console to the British public in places like shopping centres.
